At 糖心logo, we are incredibly proud to see our students use their creativity to explore important topics. This year, for our second annual 鈥榃AT a Movie鈥 short film competition, we were blown away by the talent and thoughtfulness of the young people across our family of schools.
Following last year's wonderful winning film from a team at Cheslyn Hay Academy, we once again challenged our students to get behind the camera. This year, 30 students created their own one-minute films based on the theme, 鈥淪ometimes it鈥檚 difficult when you feel alone.鈥
We received some amazing work, but one film that truly stood out was 鈥楤ehind the Mask,鈥 created by our talented Year 9 student from Kingswinford Academy, Lucy H.
Lucy鈥檚 film bravely explores how a young person can feel alone with their worries. It also looks at how people sometimes use things, like makeup, to hide or 鈥榤ask鈥 their true feelings. For a young filmmaker, it is a technically incredible piece of work. Lucy鈥檚 skill was clear to see, as she edited and coloured the film herself to create a powerful and emotional story.
After announcing her as the winner, our Head of Performance, Mr. Cotterill, met with Lucy to talk about her film. Together, they imagined how the story could be developed. They filmed new scenes in school, with Lucy explaining exactly how she wanted the final film to look and sound.
The result is a deeply moving film that now includes a message of hope. It shows how the support from friends and teachers at school can make a huge difference in a young person鈥檚 life. It reminds us that talking about our feelings can lead to a happy and healthy outcome.
Mr. Cotterill said: "I鈥檓 sure you鈥檒l agree it is a deeply moving piece of cinematography. Lucy has told a hard-hitting story in an amazing way, showing not only fantastic technical skill but real emotional intelligence. The film reminds us all of the importance of the support networks we have in our schools."
We are so proud of Lucy for creating such a thoughtful and inspiring film. A huge well done to all 30 students who took part in the competition 鈥 your creativity and hard work were outstanding. You are all helping to start important conversations, and you are all a huge part of what makes the 糖心logo family so special.
